The Synchromesh Wine Pack

These 6 wines in front of you were hand picked by OkanaganWine.Club as they are a great representation of the quality and overall portfolio at Synchromesh Wines.

Meet Synchromesh Wines

Synchromesh Wines is a small, family-owned winery in Okanagan Falls, BC. Winemaker and co-owner Alan Dickinson has built a reputation for producing premium Riesling that has gained both local and international respect since the first vintage in 2010. With production of around 4300 cases every year, the wine sells out quickly. The portfolio consists of single vineyard wines to shed light on individual site differences. Alan and his wife Amy have a son named Nigel. Alan’s parents John and Kirsty are also involved in the operation. They have a home at the Storm Haven Vineyard in Okanagan Falls, where they also have dogs, chickens, and goats. Synchromesh is a focused project and labour of love for the Dickinson family.
Alan is an avid classic and performance car enthusiast, and the word “synchromesh” refers to a system of changing gears that roughly means “everything working together.” It’s an excellent way to describe the approach at Synchromesh. The Dickinsons take a holistic approach to land management and wine growing.
for Alan and the family. Looking at the big picture of the entire business, the family is working towards a connected ecosystem at Stormhaven and other vineyard properties in an effort to conserve and restore the land for future generations. Only organic sulphur is sprayed on the vines, and it is used sparingly. Additionally, the grapes set their own crop levels and regulate themselves naturally.
Synchromesh focuses on Riesling and, to a lesser extent, on Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir, with a concentration on the Riesling varietal. Alan appreciates Riesling because it’s incredibly expressive and is also considered to be one of the most ageable wine varietals worldwide. Individual vineyard sites all grow the same Riesling clone (21B) and express themselves in different growing conditions. The grapes come from five different Riesling properties to further highlight their subtle uniqueness, and multiple picks are done at every vineyard to isolate distinctions. These micro harvests are wild fermented individually for later blending. The difference in terroir creates completely different wines that reflect where they were grown.
The Okanagan Falls area has ideal growing conditions for premium Riesling, thanks in large part to the large diurnal swing between day and evening temperatures. This variation in temperature encourages exceptional ripening during the day and acidity retention during the cool nights. It is also a vineyard practice here to allow vines to set natural crop levels, which typically results in a smaller but more intense harvest of grapes. Synchromesh has made a name for itself as a very distinguished and accomplished Riesling producer. It has received enthusiastic reviews from international wine writers and has almost always achieved above 91 points. All of the wines at Synchromesh are balanced, focused, compelling, and ageable.

About the Wines

The wines in this sample pack are sold out, and the tasting room is now closed for the season. This is a collection of beautifully made premium wines that shouldn’t be missed. If these Rieslings are cellared, they will develop notes of honey and petrol or diesel with a striking freshness for years (or even decades) to come.

You will enjoy the crisp and mineral-driven 2017 Bob Hancock Vineyard Riesling and the rich and exotic 2017 Thorny Vines Vineyard Riesling. Then, there are the tropical 2017 Four Shadows Vineyard Riesling and the 2017 Storm Haven Vineyards Riesling, the latter of which is considered to be extremely ageable (30–40 years!). Storm Haven is the home vineyard and a very special site.Members will receive two bottles of the 2014 Tertre Rouge.

This is a stunning and balanced blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot from a single vineyard on the Naramata Bench. Twenty-four VIP members will switch out one bottle of the 2014 Tertre Rouge for the 2014 Cabernet Franc. Only 24 cases of this wine were crafted with 100% new French oak and a whole cluster fermentation. It’s big, balanced, and very ageable. Both of these reds are from Turtle Rock Farms Vineyard. These wines are not to be missed, and we are so happy to be sharing them with you!

Selected Wines for Synchromesh Wines

2017 Bob Hancock Vineyard Riesling | Synchromesh Wines | $28.00

Tasting Notes | Asian pear, lime and citrus blossom on the nose. A poised acidity and flinty minerality give way to palate notes of crisp apple skin and ripe nectarine.
Pairing | Japanese Seafood Stew.
Drinking Recommendations | Enjoy now or cellar with confidence for 7-10 years.
Why We Chose It | Bob Hancock is a multi-generation, lifelong Naramata farmer and knows this vineyard very well. This vintage was Bob’s last year farming as he moves into a well-deserved retirement. The Bob Hancock vineyard is one the most northern sites on the Naramata Bench. Although it has a southern exposure, the vineyard is subject to cooler outflows from the mountain to the east that keeps acidity and freshness in check.

Al 9.62% | TA 11.23 | RS 47.20 | Cases Produced 220

2017 Thorny Vines Vineyard Riesling | Synchromesh Wines | $28.00

Tasting Notes | Concentrated mandarin, honeysuckle and pink grapefruit jump out of the glass. This is off-dry with a rich mouthfeel with flavours of fresh apples and chalk, with a persistent, linear acidity and a long dry finish.
Pairing | Crab fried rice.
Drinking Recommendations | Enjoy now or cellar with confidence for 7-10 years.
Why We Chose It | Thorny Vines vineyard is on the southern end of the Naramata Bench. The soil here varies from richer on the west side of the vineyard to sand based soil on the east side. This provides diversity in flavours as well incredible balance. This is a cooler North facing vineyard that offers consistent ripening with good acid retention.

Alc 9.38% | TA 9.9 | RS 61 | Cases Produced 220

2017 Four Shadows Vineyard Riesling | Synchromesh Wines | $28.00

Tasting Notes | Ripe tropical fruit with honey and a flinty minerality. This Riesling has a silky mouthfeel and tastes like caramel apple and grilled pineapple.
Pairing | Jerk Chicken with Pineapple Cilantro Rice.
Drinking Recommendations | Enjoy now or cellar with confidence for 7-10 years.
Why We Chose It | This vineyard has Riesling planted on a high elevation, this is a steep block just north of Penticton. These grapes are beautifully balanced and intensely flavoured. This vineyard is farmed with care by Wilbert, and Joka Borren and the soil type is gravel and clay overlayed with bedrock and granite. Steep growing conditions and poor soil structure put stress on grapevines resulting in high quality, low yields.

Al 9.79% | TA 8.4 | RS 45.14 | Cases Produced 220

2017 Storm Haven Vineyard Riesling | Synchromesh Wines | $40.00

Tasting Notes | Aromas of peach skin, lime and green mango on this mineral-driven wine. A luxurious mouthfeel with delicate flavours of wet stone preserved citrus and dried tropical fruit. The finish is long and crisp.
Pairing | Hot and sour soup.
Drinking Recommendations | Enjoy now or cellar with confidence for 10-40 years.
Why We Chose It | This is a delicate and compelling Riesling that has excellent ageing potential.
Storm Haven is the home vineyard at Synchromesh. It is an excellent growing site because of southern exposure and the large diurnal temperature swing that occurs at the base of Peachcliff Mountain. This season had a cool, late start which contributes to length and acidity. The soil here is low in nutrients which forces the vine roots deep and produces small, concentrated grapes.

Al 8.71% | TA 11.4 | RS 53.50 | Cases Produced 186

2X 2014 Turtle Rock Farm Tertre Rouge | Synchromesh Wines | $40.00

Tasting Notes | Silky plum, raspberry, violet and earthy moss on the nose of this well-built wine. Ripe tannins and a refreshing acidity frame more black fruit, chocolate and coffee with an ongoing finish.
Pairing | Mole Poblano.
Drinking Recommendations | Decant for 1 hour or cellar with confidence for 7-10 years.
Why We Chose It | This is a blend of 54% Merlot and 46% Cabernet Franc from Turtlerock Farms Vineyard on the upper side of Naramata Road. The vineyard is almost equally divided in two with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. These vines are cropped low for quality. With ideal growing conditions, these grapes ripen slowly while maintaining a fresh acidity.

The Okanagan Wine Club: Bringing You Quality Local Wines You’ll Love

Here at the Okanagan Wine Club, we’re passionate about bringing you great local wines from world-renowned and boutique wineries. As wine lovers ourselves, we know how challenging it is to walk into a liquor store and find a new bottle of wine to try (many of our selections CAN’T be found in liquor stores). Will it pair nicely with the meal you’ve planned? Is it a good vintage? We’ve had these questions ourselves, and that’s why we work hard to take the guesswork out of trying new wines. We work directly with some of the Okanagan’s best wineries to hand-select the top seasonal offerings and bring them straight to your door.
What does that mean? It means you can spend less time analyzing your wines and more time enjoying them. It means you’ll never again have to guess whether or not 2011 was a good year for local whites or whether you’re overpaying for that bottle of Merlot. Put away your vintage charts; when you shop through the Okanagan Wine Club, you’ll benefit from our wine experts’ knowledge and experience in choosing great local wines.

No Monthly Fee Means You Only Pay for What You Want

One common question we often get is what monthly dues we charge to be part of the club. The answer? None. We don’t charge our members any kind of monthly fee whatsoever. Joining the club is absolutely free, and always will be.

The Okanagan Wine Club is not a monthly membership site, and this is important for several reasons:

  •  No monthly membership fee means you can try wines at your leisure.
  • You can pick and choose the sample packs you want to receive without having to cancel a featured pack (I always forgot to cancel and got stuff I didn’t want).
  • No inventory on hand means we don’t guarantee sales to the wineries, which means they give us their highest quality wine.

Our partner wineries know that our current and future club members are passionate about great wine, and that our members represent a significant part of the wine enthusiast community – that means the wineries are proud to present their very best wines to Okanagan Wine Club members

FAQ

Do I Need to Sign a Contract?

Not at all! Joining the Okanagan Wine Club is entirely free and doesn’t require any paperwork. You have no contract with us and may choose to unsubscribe at any time. We do not trap you into monthly charges…you simply buy the sample packs you want 🙂 Simple.

What Happen If I Want to Leave the Okanagan Wine Club?

You don’t really have to leave, as you are not in a subscription! You just don’t buy anymore (but we doubt that will happen).

Is This a Connoisseurs-Only Club? Do I Have to Know Anything About Wine to Join the Club?

It can seem intimidating at first to join a wine club when you know nothing about wine, but rest assured you have nothing to fear. The Okanagan Wine Club is proud to offer a variety of educational materials that will help you to become a wine master in no time. Our weekly newsletters and blog articles are full of great information that can help you to better understand the wine world. With these materials, you’ll learn about wine regions, flavour and texture profiles, and all the big industry news. Best of all, it’s written in a beginner-friendly manner that assumes absolutely zero knowledge of wine, wine pairings, or the wine industry. Even if you’re starting fresh with no wine background whatsoever, you’ll love what we have to offer – and you’ll quickly learn everything you need to know.

Best of all, joining the Okanagan Wine Club is completely free and requires no monthly commitment. So even if you’re not a “wine club” person, you can still learn about, enjoy, and discuss the best wines in the Okanagan.

I Only Like One Kind of Wine!

One of the great advantages of joining our wine club is that you’ll be able to try new, boutique wines easier than ever. Perhaps the reason you don’t like white wines, for instance, is because you haven’t yet found the right white. Wines come in many diverse forms and flavour profiles, and by ordering today you get to try 6 new wines.

I Don’t Drink Enough Wine to Justify Joining a Wine Club!

Even if you don’t necessarily drink wine on a regular basis, you probably still celebrate with it, or entertain family and friends. It’s never a bad idea to have a few bottles of wine on hand should some old friends unexpectedly drop in – and by being prepared, you’ll look like a fantastic host. Wine also makes an excellent gift for birthdays and holidays. Invited for a dinner party? Quickly grab a nice bottle with a story to tell. No one will ship you wine automatically. If you order once, that’s it (until you choose to order more).

I’m Afraid to Give Out My Credit Card Number Online!

We understand that e-commerce can be intimidating, and credit card fraud is a real concern. We ensure that the winery in turn has a payment platform that uses secure SSL verification, a security method that prevents third parties from getting your information. SSL verification ensures that your computer only connects to trusted sites that independent third parties have confirmed as reliable. It’s the technological equivalent of keeping your credit card in a box with two different locks protecting it.

What If I Don’t Like Your Wine?

Here at the Okanagan Wine Club, we strive to bring you the best wine deals in the region – and in support of that mission, we’ve chosen to focus exclusively on cultivating and distributing a great selection of products.  By partnering with several different wineries, we’re able to offer you a wider selection of wines to try and enjoy.

Sadly, this means we have no control over the wine making process, and therefore we cannot guarantee the quality of each individual bottle. However, many of our partner wineries do allow you to return wine directly to the winery if the quality has been compromised. If you are unsatisfied with your wine purchase or the quality of your wine, please email us to help you solve the issue.

There’s A Specific Kind of Wine I Want, But You Don’t Offer It!

The great freedom we offer over traditional wine membership sites is that you, the user, are free to order the wine packs you want and decline the wine packs you don’t want. So thankfully, you’re not obligated to buy a wine you don’t think you’ll enjoy (we encourage trying new wines).

Here at the Okanagan Wine Club, we try to come out with new offers every two weeks. If you don’t see your preferred wine in our offers, send us an email and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Where am I Purchasing The Wine?
You are purchasing wine directly from the winery. All on their site but we are working closely with the wineries to ensure that OWC members get treated as true VIPs and enjoy a quality experience every time.
