The Intersection Estate Winery

These 6 wines in front of you were hand picked by OkanaganWine.Club as they are a great representation of the quality and overall portfolio at Intersection Estate Winery.

Meet Intersection Estate Winery

Intersection Estate Winery is just south of Oliver, BC. The vineyard at Intersection has hot, sunny mornings with shaded and cool afternoons. Intersection creates authentic wines that are a reflection of what grows best on the Golden Mile. The Golden Mile is a warm, east-facing bench of land and a subregion in the South Okanagan Valley. These wines offer something of interest and delight for all types of wine lovers.
The vines at Intersection are planted close together and specifically positioned to suit the particular slope and aspect within the 10 acre vineyard. Intersection Estate Winery got its name because of its location on the crossroads of different soils in their vineyard. The way in which the grapes grow and the flavours of the finished wines are a reflection of these different soils.
Most of the vineyard at Intersection is made up of alluvial soil, which is semi fertile soil that was deposited by now dried up creeks and rivers. This mix of silt, sand and gravel holds moisture and results in grapes that are lively and elegant. There is also a small hillside patch of dry silica sand. This fine soil conversely grows small, concentrated grapes with more texture and developed tannins. The difference in these two soil types can be seen best in Intersection’s beautiful single vineyard expressions of Merlot. In addition to Merlot, Intersection grows aromatic white grapes and gives them texture and big mouthfeel by using mostly neutral oak barrels in the winery. These whites are intriguing and fresh.

Intersection makes premium quality wine while focusing on environmental sustainability. The small team at Intersection values individuality and education. Uniquely, everyone at Intersection takes part in farming the vineyard, working in the cellar and in sales. The passion for creating signature wines of the South Okanagan means that Intersection is focused on quality rather than quantity.  Intersection crafts 3500 cases per year and its first vintage was in 2009.
Winemaker and viticulturist Melissa Smits began her career in oenology in Ontario and has been making wine since she was too young to drink it. She loves getting her hands dirty and values the small size of Intersection because she gets to do a bit of everything.
Moss Scheurkogel turns wine tasting into a learning experience as the Director of Marketing and Education. A former English teacher and true wine enthusiast,  Moss is a natural educator with a kind and humble nature.
Bruce Schmidt is co-owner of Intersection Estate Winery and a veteran in the wine business. Bruce is a locally-born venture capitalist and entrepreneur who has held careers in advertising and biotechnology. In 2005, Bruce bought this vineyard property in Oliver with a vacant fruit packing house on site. The packing house has been turned into a serviceable winery with a tasting room that is stylistically minimalist with an edgy feel. Collectively, this trio is ruthlessly particular with regard to quality while sharing the goal of vividly expressing the grape, soil, time and place

About the Wines

You will enjoy lively and refreshing limited edition whites and three different expressions of Merlot in this pack. To begin with, the fresh 2015 Viognier, which until now has been limited to Intersection Wine Club members only. The 2015 Reserve Viognier-Marsanne is a rich, full bodied white wine. Spending time in a mix of new and neutral oak is the 2015 Reserve Barrel Aged Sauvignon Blanc. This wine has elevated aromatics and a touch of spice from the French oak. All three of these whites are great for summer dining.
The three different showings of Merlot are all very unique. The 2015 Milepost Merlot is bright, punchy and approachable. 2014 was an outstanding vintage in the South Okanagan and the 2014 Alluvia Merlot is no exception. Delicate flavours, light acidity and a rich texture are the result of the fertile, alluvial soil in the vineyard. From the opposite side of the vineyard is the 2014 Silica Merlot, which is grown is dry, hot silica sand. This is a structured and age-worthy Merlot with great length of finish.
A few lucky VIP Members will switch the Milepost Merlot for the compelling 2015 Cabernet Franc. This exclusive Cabernet Franc is not made every year, but the hot 2015 season resulted in perfectly ripe grapes. This is a juicy and herbaceous wine with charred wood flavours from a mix of French and American oak.

The Okanagan Wine Club: Bringing You Quality Local Wines You’ll Love

Here at the Okanagan Wine Club, we’re passionate about bringing you great local wines from world-renowned and boutique wineries. As wine lovers ourselves, we know how challenging it is to walk into a liquor store and find a new bottle of wine to try (many of our selections CAN’T be found in liquor stores). Will it pair nicely with the meal you’ve planned? Is it a good vintage? We’ve had these questions ourselves, and that’s why we work hard to take the guesswork out of trying new wines. We work directly with some of the Okanagan’s best wineries to hand-select the top seasonal offerings and bring them straight to your door.
What does that mean? It means you can spend less time analyzing your wines and more time enjoying them. It means you’ll never again have to guess whether or not 2011 was a good year for local whites or whether you’re overpaying for that bottle of Merlot. Put away your vintage charts; when you shop through the Okanagan Wine Club, you’ll benefit from our wine experts’ knowledge and experience in choosing great local wines.

No Monthly Fee Means You Only Pay for What You Want

One common question we often get is what monthly dues we charge to be part of the club. The answer? None. We don’t charge our members any kind of monthly fee whatsoever. Joining the club is absolutely free, and always will be.

The Okanagan Wine Club is not a monthly membership site, and this is important for several reasons:

  •  No monthly membership fee means you can try wines at your leisure.
  • You can pick and choose the sample packs you want to receive without having to cancel a featured pack (I always forgot to cancel and got stuff I didn’t want).
  • No inventory on hand means we don’t guarantee sales to the wineries, which means they give us their highest quality wine.

Our partner wineries know that our current and future club members are passionate about great wine, and that our members represent a significant part of the wine enthusiast community – that means the wineries are proud to present their very best wines to Okanagan Wine Club members

FAQ

Do I Need to Sign a Contract?

Not at all! Joining the Okanagan Wine Club is entirely free and doesn’t require any paperwork. You have no contract with us and may choose to unsubscribe at any time. We do not trap you into monthly charges…you simply buy the sample packs you want 🙂 Simple.

What Happen If I Want to Leave the Okanagan Wine Club?

You don’t really have to leave, as you are not in a subscription! You just don’t buy anymore (but we doubt that will happen).

Is This a Connoisseurs-Only Club? Do I Have to Know Anything About Wine to Join the Club?

It can seem intimidating at first to join a wine club when you know nothing about wine, but rest assured you have nothing to fear. The Okanagan Wine Club is proud to offer a variety of educational materials that will help you to become a wine master in no time. Our weekly newsletters and blog articles are full of great information that can help you to better understand the wine world. With these materials, you’ll learn about wine regions, flavour and texture profiles, and all the big industry news. Best of all, it’s written in a beginner-friendly manner that assumes absolutely zero knowledge of wine, wine pairings, or the wine industry. Even if you’re starting fresh with no wine background whatsoever, you’ll love what we have to offer – and you’ll quickly learn everything you need to know.

Best of all, joining the Okanagan Wine Club is completely free and requires no monthly commitment. So even if you’re not a “wine club” person, you can still learn about, enjoy, and discuss the best wines in the Okanagan.

I Only Like One Kind of Wine!

One of the great advantages of joining our wine club is that you’ll be able to try new, boutique wines easier than ever. Perhaps the reason you don’t like white wines, for instance, is because you haven’t yet found the right white. Wines come in many diverse forms and flavour profiles, and by ordering today you get to try 6 new wines.

I Don’t Drink Enough Wine to Justify Joining a Wine Club!

Even if you don’t necessarily drink wine on a regular basis, you probably still celebrate with it, or entertain family and friends. It’s never a bad idea to have a few bottles of wine on hand should some old friends unexpectedly drop in – and by being prepared, you’ll look like a fantastic host. Wine also makes an excellent gift for birthdays and holidays. Invited for a dinner party? Quickly grab a nice bottle with a story to tell. No one will ship you wine automatically. If you order once, that’s it (until you choose to order more).

I’m Afraid to Give Out My Credit Card Number Online!

We understand that e-commerce can be intimidating, and credit card fraud is a real concern. We ensure that the winery in turn has a payment platform that uses secure SSL verification, a security method that prevents third parties from getting your information. SSL verification ensures that your computer only connects to trusted sites that independent third parties have confirmed as reliable. It’s the technological equivalent of keeping your credit card in a box with two different locks protecting it.

What If I Don’t Like Your Wine?

Here at the Okanagan Wine Club, we strive to bring you the best wine deals in the region – and in support of that mission, we’ve chosen to focus exclusively on cultivating and distributing a great selection of products.  By partnering with several different wineries, we’re able to offer you a wider selection of wines to try and enjoy.

Sadly, this means we have no control over the wine making process, and therefore we cannot guarantee the quality of each individual bottle. However, many of our partner wineries do allow you to return wine directly to the winery if the quality has been compromised. If you are unsatisfied with your wine purchase or the quality of your wine, please email us to help you solve the issue.

There’s A Specific Kind of Wine I Want, But You Don’t Offer It!

The great freedom we offer over traditional wine membership sites is that you, the user, are free to order the wine packs you want and decline the wine packs you don’t want. So thankfully, you’re not obligated to buy a wine you don’t think you’ll enjoy (we encourage trying new wines).

Here at the Okanagan Wine Club, we try to come out with new offers every two weeks. If you don’t see your preferred wine in our offers, send us an email and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Where am I Purchasing The Wine?
You are purchasing wine directly from the winery. All on their site but we are working closely with the wineries to ensure that OWC members get treated as true VIPs and enjoy a quality experience every time.
