Celebrate British Columbia’s Wines with the Okanagan Wine Fest this Spring!
With the worst of the winter weather behind us, it’s time to jump into spring. And in Okanagan, spring means one thing: the Okanagan Spring Wine Festival! This celebration of vines and wines is the unofficial start of the season in the Valley. If you’ve been wanting to experience Okanagan Valley and its wines first-hand, the Spring Wine Festival, which runs from May 3rd to May 13th, offers you a chance to get a crash course in all of Okanagan’s gastronomic goings-on.
The wine fest debuted in 1980, back when the wine industry was getting its start. Since then, both the wines and the wine festival have attracted interest from folks all over the world. These festivals are run four times a year, once during each season. The Okanagan Spring Wine Festival is full of different events to check out. The Best Of Varietal Awards are handed out in spring to the wineries which make the top examples of different grape varieties. There are loads of wine tastings, sommelier and chef competitions, food and wine pairings, and concerts to boot. Events will be held throughout Okanagan Valley in Summerland, Penticton, Oliver, and Osoyoos.
For die-hard fans of Okanagan’s wines, the main event is the Westjet Tasting on May 4th-5th. You’ll be able to taste over 250 of British Columbia’s top wines inside the beautiful Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna. There’s no better way to taste these wines all in one place!
Between attending different events and tastings, you can fill your days with visiting local wineries. After all, there’s nothing like seeing where the magic happens with your own eyes. The Valley is also famous for its world-class restaurants, so be sure to grab a bite as you jaunt from spot to spot. You can pick up tickets for events over on the festival’s website and see upcoming events for other festivals later in the year.
The Okanagan Wine Festival has something for every wine lover, whether you’re local to the Valley or are simply a fan of its wines. If you’ve been looking for an excuse to visit Okanagan, this is a golden opportunity. Not only will you get to experience the beauty of British Columbia first-hand, but you’ll also have the chance to sample its finest food and wines, hear some great live music, and more. Drink a glass (well, maybe more than one) of Okanagan’s finest wines and discover what makes the Okanagan Spring Wine Festival “one of Canada’s best small festivals.”
